California, the eighth largest economy in the world, has nearly one million residents that lack daily access to clean drinking water. Residents who live in mostly rural areas have unreliable access to safe drinking water, according to the Community Water Center a non-profit group that advocates affordable and clean water for all Californians. More than 100 areas with fewer than 10,000 people had arsenic violations. Most are small, poor communities with a predominantly Hispanic population, some of whom are forced to spend up to 10 percent of household income on bottled water.
Intensive agroculture is the main reason why there is coming for the lack of water. Most of the water is used for watering crops, but only the small portion is used for residents of Central Valley.
Residents must boil their tap water, but it doesnt neceseraly suffice. Becuse there are still noxious chemicals in it. So they have to buy bottled water.
