More than two thousand people depend on their survival from farmlands, forests and water sources. Oil spill ruins ground and affects people prosperity. The oil spills are very hazardous of that area affecting the environment. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation is responsible for oil spill. The official extraction from this area began since 1981 after Oil and Natural Gas Corporation acquired permission from the Government of Nagaland. However, the Free Prior and Informed Consent of the indigenous communities as per the national and international law was not obtained. Against this situation, mainly students protest with the demand that state government has to frame modalities for oil fields. To improve the situation the Nagaland government has constituted a cabinet sub-committee on petroleum and natural gas what should frame modalities. Unfortunately this process is uncompleted.
