The fact that livestock farming produces greenhouse gases (GHG) is undoubtable. Especially the production of beef meat is the most harmful for the environment. The same time, the production of legumes results in 1/4 of the amount of GHGs that beef produce. Also, legume cultivation instead of meat, could free up to 42% of US cropland.
Prefering plant-based food over animal-based could avert global temperature rise. Huge amounts of grains are required for meat production, while all these amounts could feed more people than meat can do. Deforestation and habitat loss from the expansion of cattle pasture lead to species extinction.
Much lower quantities of crops and water are required for a vegan diet. The world population is expected to reach 9 billion by 2050. So an easy solution to reduce all this pressure to the environment and to ourselves is a more vegan lifestyle.
Let’s not forget the ethical aspect of this lifestyle too!
