Hard particle is an expression of the dust that is present in a certan period in the air. They differ in terms of size, Trbovlje has a problem particularly with particles in diameter 10µm (PM10). These particles increase the risk of respiratory disease, heart disease. It´s scientificly proven to cause the occurrence of lung cancer and asthma. They can be natural (the smoke of forest fires) or anthropogenic (power plants, transport and industry). They are prescribed daily and in an annual limit, which is in the municipality of Trbovlje exceeded three percent.
Sulfur dioxide is a colorless gas with the fragrance, which is irritating to mucous membranes. In the atmosphere, it is converted into sulfuric acid, which then requires as acid rain. Sulfur dioxide is used for bleaching, disinfection, and as a preservative in food. It is produced by the combustion of fuels (oil, coal) and a number of industrial processes (ore processing), taking place in power plants, oil refineries and other large industrial plants.
Short-term exposure causes problems with asthma, long-term exposure to the disease burden but more often with bronchitis, coughs and infections deeper in the respiratory tract. Physical activity in such places is not recommended, because faster breathing causes larger amounts of inhailes of more poisonus air, it is also inhaled through the mouth so air is not purified.
The main source of air pollution in Trbovlje is Trbovlje thermal power plant and cement factory Lafarge Cement. Cement factory in March this year has required the isnssurance of an environmental permit to operate the plant for the production of cement, but the Environment Agency rejected the claim when they found that it exceeded the daily limit concentration of dust particles.
