Lately the whole world was both surprised and agitated by the fact that North Korea has officially asked for direct nuclear talks with the USA, its major opponent. The move that was called audacious by many respectful medias can bring both good and bad outcomes not only for Korea and US but for the whole world. North Korea has been playing with a fire for quite some time now ever since Kim Jung-un came to power. By conducting its multiple nuclear missiles trials over past few years North Korea was making a statement “We’re not afraid. Bring it on”. Unsurprisingly the US also didn’t hesitate to answer back by launching the “mother of all bombs” over the Afghanistan. The possible results of such bragging are evident to everyone – one wrong move and we’re all gone. Especially taking into account the fact that North Korea’s furthest-reaching intercontinental ballistic missile could theoretically travel 13000 km. This puts the whole world in danger except Latin America and Antarctica. Despite many countries being equipped with anti-missile shot down equipment the failures are still common. Thus, nuclear war is a major threat nowadays and it becomes more and more realistic every day. Especially since countries continue to improve their nuclear arsenal in order to keep up with other players. In such a situation, North Korea’s demand might play a role of the first peace offering. The goal of the future meeting between Mr. Trump and Mr. Kim is a permanent denuclearization. Both presidents express optimism about the upcoming negotiation yet whether or not the full denuclearization will be achieved remains a question. It is highly unlikely that Kim Jung-un will give up its entire nuclear arsenal which is also the main protection measure North Korea has against the military threat of the US expanding economic interests in Asia and all over the world. Yet, it’s the first step and it’s already a big achievement on the path for a brighter and safer future.
