Environment is among the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of EU

Protection of the environment and cleanliness of drinking water are among the main priorities in the field of ecology of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (January – June 201). During the official events will be discussed as well the issue of atmospheric air pollution. Another elemеnt of the agenda will be the forthcoming talks about EU Member States' contributions to meeting the climate targets set in the Paris climate agreement. (Source: http://www.agrotv.bg/p_11062Okolna-sreda---prioriteti-na-bylgarskoto-predsedatelstvo-na-Syveta-na-ES.html) Bulgarian Minister of Environment and Water presented the priorities of the Bulgarian presidency of the EU Council on the environment before the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety of the European Parliament in Brussels on 24.01.2018. Bulgaria has placed the focus on the  mitigation of environmental impacts, as well as on the implementation of eco-innovative solutions. "We are planning to prioritize the new plastics strategy by organizing a ministerial debate during the Council in March, focusing on how we can increase recycling and significantly reduce landfill and incineration of plastic waste," the minister added. "In the focus of the presidency, we are also focusing on improving the quality of the atmospheric air." Air pollution is not only an environmental issue, but also a social problem,  the Minister acknowledges. He firmly stated that Europe has a political consensus on climate change and the measures to be taken, and Bulgaria is part of this consensus. Priority is also being given to better regulation in order to ensure more effective implementation of environmental legislation.
