Gorleben is a community in the north east of Lower Saxony in Germany. Gorleben has become famous: 1) nearby is an intermediate storage facility for nuclear waste and 2) the community resists. Almost 40 year’s, people has been protesting against the nuclear waste. At the beginning, Gorleben was chosen because of the proximity to the inner German border, the sparse local populace and in order to strengthen the structural weak region. All these arguments do not apply anymore. The place is absolutely inappropriate to store nuclear waste. Geological reports prove an insufficient overburden and a dangerous connection with phreatic water. These are the two main problems of the final storage. From the very beginning of the storage’s construction people started to protest. The protest has become international, colorful and creative. Demonstrations, occupations, festivals and many other forms of protest were realized. People need power of endurance, because there is no solution in sight.
